Caesars Finalizes $500M WSOP Sale to GGPoker's NSUS Group, Ensuring Brand Continuity

the sale of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) brand to NSUS Group, the parent company of GGPoker. This transaction officially closed alongside the announcement of Caesars’ third-quarter financials, involves a unique structure—$250 million in cash, complemented by a $250 million promissory note due within five years, secured by WSOP’s intellectual property.

This agreement, however, ensures Caesars maintains a significant ongoing role in the WSOP’s future, particularly in its brick-and-mortar poker tournaments and online gaming operations within the U.S. Caesars retains the exclusive right to host the WSOP’s iconic summer series at its Las Vegas properties for the next 20 years. Caesars’ Horseshoe and Paris casinos, venues that have held the event since 2022, will continue as the primary hosts for WSOP events, marking a continuation of a long-standing tradition within the poker community.

Caesars to Retain Rights for Online and Live WSOP Circuit Events in the U.S.

In addition to the rights to the annual WSOP live tournament, Caesars will continue to manage WSOP Online sites within regulated U.S. markets. With brand licenses from NSUS, Caesars Digital will keep running WSOP-branded online poker in states including Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. However, Caesars will face limitations regarding peer-to-peer real-money poker operations outside of the U.S. market, with specific exceptions under the new NSUS-controlled arrangement.

Notably, Caesars’ current poker rooms across its properties will maintain WSOP branding and continue to have exclusive rights to host WSOP Circuit events, further anchoring Caesars’ involvement in the ongoing success of the WSOP. By leveraging its established venues and digital operations, Caesars is positioned to sustain the WSOP’s strong presence among poker enthusiasts in both online and land-based settings nationwide.

Key WSOP Executives Transition to NSUS Subsidiary Roles

As part of the acquisition, NSUS has welcomed seasoned WSOP executives to lead the brand under its ownership. Ty Stewart, previously WSOP’s Executive Director, has taken on the role of CEO within a new NSUS subsidiary dedicated to WSOP operations. Stewart, who has been instrumental to WSOP’s growth since 2005, will now direct the brand’s evolution as part of NSUS. Gregory Chochon, another long-time WSOP leader, steps in as Chief Operating Officer, while Erik Eidissen s as Communications Manager, ensuring continuity in WSOP’s leadership. The expertise these executives bring is expected to facilitate a smooth transition and help NSUS leverage the brand’s strengths.

NSUS’ Global Strategy for the WSOP Brand Remains to Be Seen

Though the sale grants NSUS control of WSOP’s intellectual property, the broader implications for WSOP’s online reach remain uncertain. GGPoker, NSUS’s leading online poker platform, is recognized for its innovative features and massive global player base, having sured PokerStars in size by 2022. GGPoker has long ed the WSOP brand through satellite tournaments and exclusive online bracelet events, even operating the WSOP-branded WSOP.ca site for Ontario’s regulated market. As GGPoker continues to expand its reach, questions arise regarding how it might extend the WSOP brand’s online offerings outside North America.

In recent years, GGPoker has elevated its presence by hosting record-breaking online events and international poker tournaments, such as WSOP Paradise, held in the Bahamas in 2023. With NSUS now fully in control of WSOP’s brand, the company has the potential to bring even more innovative offerings to poker fans worldwide, possibly building upon its existing partnerships and strategic market moves.

This landmark acquisition strengthens GGPoker’s influence in the online poker industry while preserving the WSOP brand’s ties to its traditional home at Caesars’ properties in Las Vegas. As NSUS moves forward with its plans, the collaboration between Caesars and NSUS is set to maintain the prestige of WSOP events and further enhance poker’s appeal to players globally.
