Chicago Suburb Crestwood Hopes to Get a Casino Under Rebuild Illinois Strategy

Crestwood, Chicago’s southern suburb, is positioning itself for being among city regions to benefit from the announced $45 billion Rebuild Illinois plan – and they wish to do so by getting a new casino developed.

In their proposal, Crestwood officials have already identified the property chosen for development. In it, they also guarantee that it can be ready for construction before year ends.

A State-Wide Ambition

Governor, JB Pritzker, has rubber stamped the Illinois has seen in decades – to begin next month. Right now, the suburb is looking for investors and casino operators that could be interested in working on a forty-acre property.

One of vital parts of the Governor’s state-wide ambitious endeavor…

…is expanded gambling. Mostly centered around Chicago and based on the bill SB 690, it could see this major city’s first land-based establishments constructed relatively soon.

Also gaining authorization were properties in Waukegan, Rockford, Williamson County, Danville and South Suburbs. O’Hare and Midway Airports will also get their slot machines.

Looking for a Positive Change

Crestwood’s Mayor, Lou Presta, commented on his village’s nomination for a Chicago casino:

“We have spoken to Crestwood citizens and to community leaders in surrounding villages and they are overwhelmingly in favour of welcoming a new, world class gaming casino to our town.”

He added:

The revenue from a casino is anticipated to be significant enough to bring positive change to a broad area within Chicago’s south suburbs. That can only come about if the casino is placed where it is geographically perfect, and the construction and design is environmentally and aesthetically perfect. Crestwood happens to be perfect from a geographical standpoint, and we intend to approve a developer that will bring nothing less than a world-class facility to our village.”

Interest Exists

Presta demanded an urgent meeting with business leaders and residents of Crestwood…

…during which all parties discussed the plan of action moving forward, including calling the potential casino developer to the suburbs. Meetings with big US and European operators were positive and many of them expressed clear interest in development of a casino resort there.

Illinois lawmakers have recently approved Chicago’s south suburb’s license request. Next up is the petitioning for a gaming license from Illinois Gaming Board.
