iGaming matters – as far as sports betting goes, ever since its launch in June – are just fine in Delaware which does not solely rely on this particular gaming vertical. Other forms of betting and gaming are quite popular in this state, particularly those performed online.
The state’s regulator, Delaware Lottery, has first-hand proof of its market’s grand success: this January’s iGaming revenue made a quantum leap compared to last year’s…
…with a 57.9 percent year-on-year increase and an 11.2% month-on-month jump from December 2018.
January’s total iGaming income was $279,541 – a fine take, considering the substantial monthly decline in players’ wager amounts…
During the first month of the year, players placed $7.4 million in wagers, which – although a 65.5% surge compared to January 2018 – was significantly less than December’s $10.3 million.
$7.2 million was won in January by players and to a total revenue, video lottery contributed the most with $190,233.44 (a 68% share). The second-most lucrative vertical was table games with $66,982.14 in profit contributions. Poker’s share was a mere $22,335.51, with fees taken into consideration.
Dover Downs saw a lion’s share of the revenue that was almost doubled from the previous year, to $139,816.37. 578 new players in total ed during January, which is a 117.3% year-on-year hike – 233 of them are Dover Downs players.
Delaware Park Casino had a completely different January experience…
…as their revenue marked a sharp 28.8% annual fall to $74.643.07. Harrington is the real winner in of revenue rise – their surge from $24,020.36 to $74,643.07 being most impressive
Sports betting did a world of good for Delaware – month after month, a wave of good news followed: slightly smaller figure was struck.
Sports betting in Delaware officially kicked off on June 5th and was the very first legalized sports wagering implementation in the US following the Supreme Court’s repeal of PASPA! This vertical is provided by Scientific Games’ sportsbooks in land-based venues within this state’s borders.
All of these positive trends in this region of the country prompted local hospitality company, Delaware North, to launch a new venture; two retail sportsbooks launched, however, not in Delaware – but in West Virginia, instead!

I guess this goes to show the importance of getting there first. States that have hesitated have something to think about now.
