September 23, 2019 Andrej Vidovic
In a shocking move, it has been announced that the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) is going to be discontinued at some point next year.
This has been confirmed by the Isle of Man-based developer who published the official announcement regarding this decision which comes after an “extensive internal review of the software supplier’s product portfolio and strategy.”
Microgaming has, thus, decided to end a poker network that has won numerous international acclaims…
…and provided online poker enthusiasts everywhere a unique and special playing experience. MPN has existed for over 16 years.
All the details of this closure will be revealed in the coming weeks on the Network’s blog. Until further notice, online tournaments access, cash games and promos will remain open for players to them.
Microgaming’s CEO, John Coleman, has commented:
“The network model no longer fits with our strategic vision for poker , and this is the right time to announce the closure as we focus on redistributing key resources and personnel across the business.
While the network will be closing, this is not the end for poker at Microgaming, which is driven to create the most enjoyable entertainment experiences, leading the way with world-class gaming content. Ultimately, this move will help the business to achieve that vision as we follow a new strategic direction for the vertical, details of which will be revealed in due course.”
In December of last year…
…MPN was extended into Eastern Europe thanks to a deal with the Bulgarian National Lottery. This was the first time that this award-winning poker network was made available in Bulgaria’s market.
COO, Andrew Clucas, said on the occasion that this entry was a significant step in growing the poker network and that it reflected the commitment to continuous growth and expansion into regulated markets.
National Lottery’s Managing Partner, Milen Ganev, has added that the partnership enables the continuation of diversification of the product and delivery of entertaining and award-winning poker games to customers.
In August, Gameburger Studios ed Microgaming’s ever growing roster of independent providers that will be delivering exclusive content to the gaming brand.
The first official release that was rolled out as a t project was Break da Bank Again Respin.
Another acquisition ensued soon after, in September…
…when Neon Valley Studios followed suit and became Microgaming’s official supplier with the release of Aurora Wilds.
John Coleman, CEO of Microgaming, was quoted as follows:
“Our studios strategy is designed to bring greater choice, innovation and quality to the market. Neon Valley have years of collective gaming industry knowledge and expertise, not to mention their own distinctive style and personality, and we are delighted to add them to our global roster of independent game studios.”
