Nevada Casinos Record Second-Highest Monthly Gaming Revenue in History

The Strip’s Strong Performance

Casinos along the Las Vegas Strip ed for a substantial portion of the revenue, reporting $840 million in gaming win. This marks a significant increase from the $686 million recorded in January 2024 and makes it the third-highest monthly total in the Strip’s history. The increase also ended a streak of six consecutive months of year-over-year declines.

Baccarat was a major contributor to the Strip’s success, generating $214.3 million in winnings, a 121% increase over the previous year. The game’s total volume reached $801.3 million, up 35.8%, while the hold percentage climbed to 26.74% from 16.43%. Excluding baccarat, statewide gaming revenue still saw a 3.7% rise, totaling an additional $43.3 million.

Table games across the Strip brought in $515.7 million, reflecting a 45.7% jump compared to January 2024. Drop for table games increased 13.9% to $2.2 billion, with the hold percentage rising to 18.94% from 14.82%. Slot machine revenue also saw growth, with $424.4 million in winnings, up 5.9%. Coin-in rose by 11.3% to $490 million, although the slot hold percentage dropped slightly to 8.8% from 9.2%.

Las Vegas hosted approximately 3.34 million visitors in January, a slight 1.1% decline compared to the same month in 2024, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). However, convention attendance grew by 12.8% to 629,000, thanks to major trade events such as CES, World of Concrete, and the World Market Center’s Winter Show.

Harry Reid International Airport recorded 4.36 million engers in January, a 0.3% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, vehicle traffic across the Nevada-California border rose by 3.1%.

Hotel occupancy rates climbed despite the city having 6,000 fewer available rooms than last year. Overall occupancy reached 81.9%, up three percentage points. Weekend occupancy stood at 85.6%, while midweek rates increased to 80.2%. The Strip’s occupancy hit 85%, while downtown Las Vegas saw a rise to 71.3% from 66.4%. The average daily room rate was $195, reflecting a 2.2% increase, while revenue per available room improved by 6% to $160.

Other Regional Gaming Figures

Not all gaming markets in Nevada shared the Strip’s success. Local casinos in Las Vegas generated $281.9 million, reflecting a 1.1% decline from the previous year’s $285.1 million. Downtown Las Vegas casinos saw a 2.2% drop to $83.7 million.

North Las Vegas casinos posted $23.8 million in revenue, marking a 5.3% increase, while the Boulder Strip’s revenue fell 6.2% to $87.3 million. Outside of Las Vegas, Laughlin casinos reported $42.2 million, down 4.9%, while Mesquite casinos recorded a 9.6% increase to $17.3 million.

In Northern Nevada, Reno casinos saw revenue increase by 2.5% to $67 million, while Sparks recorded a 3.3% rise to $13.5 million. South Lake Tahoe casinos experienced the most significant growth, with revenue climbing 22.3% to $22.2 million. However, North Lake Tahoe recorded an 11.1% decline to $1.9 million.

Nevada sportsbooks collected $72.6 million in winnings for January, reflecting a 12.1% increase from the previous year. The total amount wagered statewide was $797 million, up 1.8%. Mobile betting saw significant growth, ing for 67% of all wagers with $533.9 million in bets placed, a 4.9% rise year-over-year.

Statewide baccarat winnings surged 119.5% to $215.2 million, with a 33.7% increase in total drop to $813 million. The game’s hold percentage jumped from 16.1% to 26.5%. Table, counter, and card games combined generated $524.1 million, a 33.2% increase, while slot machines ed for $915.3 million, up 3.4%.

Las Vegas hosted several high-profile entertainment events in January, including Janet Jackson’s performances at Resorts World, The Killers at Caesars Palace, and the continuation of the Eagles’ residency at the MSG Sphere. Additionally, the Las Vegas Raiders played a home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The strong start to the year signals positive momentum for Nevada’s gaming sector, particularly on the Strip, where high baccarat winnings and improved table game hold percentages contributed significantly to revenue gains.
