NHL Player Evander Kane Faces Cosmopolitan Casino Charges

Popular Las Vegas casino and hotel, The Cosmopolitan, has filed a lawsuit against NHL player, Evander Kane. According to accusations, Kane failed to pay about $500k in gambling markers.

More About the Suit

The venue filed the lawsuit against the player this past Monday. It is looking for $500k in compensation in gambling markers as well as $15k for legal fees and interests.

According to the Las Vegas Journal report, the local casino issued to Kane eight gambling markers on April 15th. It happened during the period when the San Jose Sharks team played a playoff series match in Vegas. The total worth of issued markers was estimated at $20k- $100k.

Kane’s team didn’t comment on the suit against its player. Kane is a Canadian citizen and he plays for the Sharks. He signed a contract worth $49m last year.

Looking Back

Kane was playing for the Winnipeg Jets team in the 2012 season. During his matches, a fan held a sign:

“Dear Evander: Please stop walking out on your bills. Sincerely, Winnipeg servers and restauranteurs.”

Even in this period, local media has been looking for evidence regarding the fan’s allegation. However, they couldn’t find anything related…

During the same year, Kane published a photo on his Twitter while he was standing on the Las Vegas balcony and holding dollars to his ear. His tweet post was related to boxer, Floyd Mayweather, who was well-known for having a backpack full of benjamins for wagering in Las Vegas.

Kane is not the first NHL player connected to casino troubles. Last September, owner of Ottawa Senators, Eugene Melnyk, has been accused of failing to pay $900k markers to Mohegan Sun. According to the words of Melnyk’s attorneys, the Mohegan venue refused to cash out clients’ chips. For this reason, Melnyk continued playing until he made some losses.
