Oregon Casino Shut Down Due Coronavirus Issues

One of the casinos in Oregon has just been closed due to coronavirus concerns. The Wildhorse Resort and Casino held by Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla announced the temporary suspension of operations after an employee has been infected with the Coronavirus. All individuals who had with the diagnosed worker will be in isolation for 14 days.

More About the Case

The local media service KTVZ revealed that an unidentified employee worked in a “confined area” in the gambling venue without having much interaction with other employees. It is still not clear how the employee got infected and the case has been considered “community transmission.” All evidence shows that the worker didn’t travel to any endangered country around the world.

The same man attended a youth basketball game at one of the local schools a short time ago. The gym where the game took place is now closed for prevention reasons and visitors wait for cleaning up. According to the opinion of authorities, the presence of the infected person doesn’t represent a major problem for other visitors indicating only a “low-risk” of exposure.

Present Situation

The operator of the casino has already taken necessary measures to prevent the dissemination of the virus. They closed all the reservation facilities and released the Facebook statement:

“The Board of Trustees has ordered that Nixyaawii Community School, Head Start, Daycare and Senior Center to be closed until all facilities have been fully sanitized.”

At the moment there are 21 identified coronavirus cases in Oregon, but health officer and epidemiologist, Dean Sidelinger expects additional patients. He said:

“With having three cases fairly quickly identified, two of which we can’t identify the specific source, that would indicate to us that this disease is circulating in our community and we will likely see additional cases.”

Other Venues

The next few days will probably see the closure of additional gambling facilities all around the US. The virus is spreading quickly and creating problems for the local operators and the entire community. Some casinos have introduced stringent measures regarding the cleansing of the gambling areas, tables, and bars to avoid possible problems.

According to the opinion of the professor of hospitality and tourism management at Purdue University in Indiana, Jonathan Day, casinos around the US should use this opportunity to show customers how they care about their safety.

He mentioned:

“People are looking for cues that show the companies are caring and they’re working on their behalf. It’s a chance to show how much you care and create a safe place for people to relax and enjoy.”
