The New Hampshire Lottery Contemplates over 13 Proposals for Sports Betting Services

Retailers and vendors interested in offering sports betting services to the clients in the Granite State submitted their requests to The New Hampshire Lottery. So far, 13 proposals from various brands have arrived.

Governor, Chris Sununu, greenlighted the activity in July this year by g new legislation into law, which gave the Lottery the approval to conduct sports betting. As far as the law says, up to 10 physical sportsbooks have the permission to run in the state, along with five digital establishments.

Making the Right Decision

Given the confidential nature of the RFP (request for proposals) …

…the Lottery strictly pointed out that, at this stage, it will not release any further details regarding any of the received bids. However, it did state that it expects to approve final contracts by the end of November aiming to launch the regulated market early in 2020.

The partners could be ready by January 1, 2020, with the market to start operating by July 1st next year.

Encouraged by the huge number of responses and the overall quality of proposals, NH Lottery executive director, Charlie McIntyre, stated as follows:

“As the critical next step in the process, we look forward to reviewing each response carefully and thoroughly to ensure we can ultimately make the right decisions in launching a sports betting system that engages and protects players, while also driving crucial revenue for education in the Granite State.”

NH’s Journey to Approval

The more specific moves regarding the official acceptance of the activity in the Granite State appeared in March this year when the bill was ed by a 269-82 vote by House of Representatives for further discussion.

The new legislation was signed into law in July

…when Governor Sununu enabled the New Hampshire Lottery to conduct sports wagering. The number of both online and land-based establishments was defined.

The current situation is heading in a positive direction, despite the fact that senator Lou D’Allesandro gave up the idea last year. For the past 20 years, he’s been trying hard to make casinos legal in the state. He stopped making efforts after being outvoted by an 11 to 10.

Enhancing Safety Measures

The law is very restrictive regarding the younger population…

…prohibiting those which are below 18-years-old to place a legal wager.

What’s even more, the Lottery Commission has to set daily, weekly and monthly spending limits for players and provide the obligatory self-exclusion system, aiming to level-up security.

As an additional measure of protection…

… the law outlines that consumers will not be able to bet on New Hampshire college teams or any college games taking place in the state. A Division of Sports Wagering will be established within the New Hampshire Lottery, having the task to oversee the sports betting market.
